Pest Control in the Agricultural Sector
Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU)
The rodenticide industry, as a whole, has recognised the need to address the concerns surrounding the responsible use of rodenticides and the need to ensure that rodenticides are used correctly and in ways that will minimise the exposure to wildlife.
The industry has therefore initiated the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU).
Key to the campaign is a code of good practice for the responsible use of rodenticides in rural areas. Hinton Pest Control Limited is a CRRU Supporter.
Since April 2006, local authorities respond to fly complaints under The Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005. This enables investigations of relevant premises and can be judged if these flies are “being prejudicial to health or a nuisance”. It can be difficult for local environmental health officers to identify the precise source of flies. Fly control on farms is best achieved using an integrated programme involving, not only use of insecticides but also adult fly monitoring, good hygiene and manure management.
